Tattoos and their significance

February 2002 marks the date at which Yendi Phillipps lost her mother, she was only 16 years old at the time. In an interview she credits this incident as one of her driving forces to always succeed in whatever she undertakes.

Two years later at age 18 she had her mother's initials (SAP) tattooed just below her inner left wrist. She also sports a tattoo of the Ghanian symbol 'Aya' on her right instep. The Aya is a fern which has the inherent ability of surviving in difficult places, individuals who where this symbol usually indicates that they have endured hardship in life. Both tattoos are worn in memory of her mother.
